Technology and Innovation
StarTrack has a long history of industry leadership in technological innovation. We were the first express freight company in Australia with uniquely barcoded freight labels, automatic freight sortation systems, online delivery vehicles and freight tracking systems (via dial-up “green screens” back in 1993!).
In order to support our sortation and tracking systems, we developed Star Track Despatcher - recognised as one of the earliest and most advanced PC-based freight management systems in the country. We have since rapidly progressed to a range of online and offline freight solutions for all types of freight movements including despatch, return consignments and branch transfer movements. The majority of our customers today also ship freight in a paperless environment.
We were the first express freight company in Australia to embrace global supply chain standards by adopting EDI messaging and EAN-UCC Serial Shipping Container Codes (SSCC barcodes) as part of our standard e-Commerce platform. We now have new generation vision scanners in our Melbourne facility which have dramatically improved quality management opportunities for automatic sortation.
Our national Enquiry Management System (EMS), also developed in-house, today provides centralised management of delivery enquiries to ensure the best possible level of service to our customers.
Information services are now providing, via our data warehouse, a range of valuable distribution profiling, service quality and freight cost accounting tools to our customers. Supporting our information systems and technology is a team of experienced logistics system professionals who assist customers on a regular basis with e-business integration and logistics issues, including international cross-docking and warehousing.
Currently we are implementing a range of new technologies to improve service quality including wireless interactive freight management devices in our depots; RFID tag technology; XML based web services; vehicle tracking and broadband mobile communications for our run fleet; and new driver scanners to provide faster registration of proof of delivery signatures throughout Australia.
Exciting times ahead!
